The Founder and President of CAWS is Dr. Paige Plumb, who started this hospital as a way to help with the growing need in Rhode Island for affordable yet
excellent veterinary care to families in need.
She graduated from The University of Rhode Island with her Bachelor of Science in 1992 and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Oklahoma State in 1996. Dr. Plumb's special interests include soft tissue surgery and kvelling about her children and beautiful grandchildren.
You will often see her youngest son, Carter, helping around the hospital after school as well as her wonderful dog, Sammi, but she also shares her home with an orange cat named Buzz.
Lead veterinary technician and dental technician, Jose Cruz has been in the field for over 20 years.
With special interest in emergency and surgery, he has loved every bit of it! A lifelong drive to help pets and people alike, not a day is boring.
His loud and quirky personality is definitely needed to bring control to a household with his several Akitas, a Newfie, Shiba Inu and his teenage son, Jaiden.
Meredith has been with CAWS as a receptionist since the day it opened in January 2014.
She sees how much it can be a struggle to afford owning a pet and how important CAWS is to the community.
Pets are such an important part of someone's family, and they deserve the best in affordable care. When not working she spends time with her boyfriend and cat, Leonard.
Jay is one of our veterinary technicians; she comes with six years
experience in the field. When Jay is not in the back of the hospital loving
all the pets, she is at home with a blended group of kids including an 8yr
old furry Pitbull named Buxter, her 15yr turtle named Nena and 3yr old
leopard gecko named Hulk.
Sara is one of our receptionist with several years in the veterinary field.
Three of those years have been with our non-profit animal hospital. She has
a 10-year old daughter that shares the same love of animals. They have
added a domestic long hair cat named Classic to their family. Sara can be
found at the front desk setting appointments for your pet, answering all of
your questions, and making your visit as efficient and comfortable as
Aly is a veterinary technician with a Bachelor's in Animal Science from URI and seven years in this field. She joined the CAWS family over two years ago. She shares her home with Maci, a 5yr old Shih Tzu mix, a leopard gecko named Norman and her roommate.
Chantra is a receptionist and has been with us at CAWS for the past
year. You can always expect a friendly face and a helping hand with
Chantra. She spends her time not at work with her 12yr old Shih Tzu
Cris is an kennel assistant for has been working for CAWS for over a year.
He makes sure the hospital is stocked, cleaned and tidy. When not at work,
he loves to spend time with his 5yr old English Bulldog named Harley.
Our official mascot is Sammi! She is our greeter and takes her job very seriously, whether it be keeping children occupied in the waiting room, playing with rambunctious pups, offering a shoulder to cry on, and always providing endless entertainment. Sammi's hobbies include making new friends and making them laugh, creating nose art on the front door, and following around 'helping' her mom, Dr. Plumb.
